Towards Decoloniality

The series Towards Decoloniality explores Colombia's struggle to shed the over-hang of its colonial past, which over generations, has seemingly become deeply embedded within its social culture. I photograph in social clubs and settings from widely disparate socio economic groups in order to shed light on the challenges the country faces ahead.

The term decoloniality, refers to the logic, metaphysics, ontology and matrix of power created by the massive processes and aftermath of colonization and settler-colonialism. This matrix and its lasting effects and structures is called "coloniality." In other words, decoloniality is a way for us to re-learn the knowledge that has been pushed aside, forgotten, buried or discredited by the forces of modernity, settler-colonialism, and racial capitalism.
